With the news, last week that Yorkshire batsman Joe Root had been named as England’s new test captain, Matthew has provided his expert opinion on the decision to award Root the captaincy as well as how he thinks it will affect the England team as a whole.
As part of their ICC World Twenty20 coverage, betting company Betsafe have recruited Matthew to write a series of columns featuring his cricket commentary and opinions on their website.
He will also feature in videos where he will share his tips on the tournament’s competitors, including the players to watch out for and who he believes will win the competition.
Matthew will be appearing at the Alford & District Cricket Club annual dinner on Saturday 5 March, where he will deliver an after dinner speech to inspire the players and staff.
He will also be on hand to answer any questions the attendees may have, as well as signing memorabilia and taking photos with fans.
Matthew has revealed how his school years saw him play very little cricket and that he is immensely grateful to Yorkshire legend Phil Carrick for turning him from a Bradford Cricket League third-teamer into a bona fide professional cricketer.
