On 11th September 2013, one of England's all-time great cricketers announced his retirement from the sport after 17 years. Matthew Hoggard MBE was known as the 'King of Swing', confounding some of the world's best batsmen. Today, Matthew will begin his final first-class match playing for Leicestershire against Hampshire.
The England cricketer played a hugely important role in the 2005 Ashes and he currently stands in eighth position on England's all-time wicket-takers list. He was named Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 2006 and named Man of the Series when England played West Indies in the same year.
Let's hope Hoggy can take some wickets and go out with a bang! The weather is currently delaying the start of the match but it is set to start later this afternoon.
Hoggy's final professional match begins today (Tuesday 17th September) at Grace Road and runs until Friday.
