Pietersen departure shrouded in mystery

The announcement that Kevin Pietersen will no longer play cricket for England seems to have been coming for some time but has been met with shock by many in the cricketing world. On Tuesday, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) unanimously decided to move on without their highest ever run-scorer.

Ian Botham declared “"He is one of the best cricketers this country has ever had - and if his career has been terminated, why not tell us why?" Former captain Michael Vaughn has also expressed confusion at the decision and Hoggy said "you don't have to be friends to play cricket together" referring to the apparent dressing room divide.

After their disastrous tour of Australia, the ECB have acted to usher in a new era of English cricket but how successful they will be remains to be seen.
