Matthew captained the Foxes to an unlikely championship victory on finals day at Edgbaston. The former England bowler was sensational in a day of fascinating cricket. Leicestershire won the title for the third time in their history and used the blend of youth and experience to end the day triumphantly in Birmingham.
The Foxes edged out Lancashire in the semi-finals before beating the well fancied Somerset by 18 runs in the final in Birmingham.
Matthew was delighted with the victory and applauded the effort shown by his underdog teammates:
"It is an incredible feeling being T20 champions, no one thought we would succeed but we did and much of this is owed to the superb team spirit we have here at Leicestershire. I am so happy for Paul Nixon for whom it was his last game! What a way to end your career!"
